The Coleridge-Erect Volunteer Fire Department operates two stations with approximately 40 members in the southeastern corner of Randolph County. Our district serves approximately 2,800 citizens and covers approximately 79 square miles (one of the largest districts in the county). Our department responds to various fire, EMS, hazardous material, and service calls throughout the Coleridge and Erect area. We also routinely assist our neighboring fire districts (Seagrove, Eastside, Franklinville , and Staley) and even Chatham County through mutual aid agreements. Our department has three members who are employed part time, which work no more than 12 hours per week per person. It is the responsibility of these three employees to keep and maintain both stations, all apparatus and equipment, complete the required paperwork, and to be able to respond to calls we receive while at the station in an effort to further decrease response time. Other than those three positions, all other members are strictly volunteer, and receive no compensation for their time or fuel to get to and from the station and calls. Our members are not paid on a 'per call' basis, and therefore proud to call themselves true volunteers.
Are Your Street Numbers Posted? Try driving by your mailbox or house at the posted speed limit. Can you read your street numbers? Now try driving by at night in the rain. Can you still read them? If not, chances are we can't either, and it will take us longer to find you in an emergency. Make sure your street numbers (as well as lot number, if applicable) are posted in an area that is easy to see and read. Also make sure the numbers are posted so that they can be seen coming from either direction on your road.
